My Athletic Shoe Project: As Orthopaedic Physician specialising in Sports Medicine, I am often confronted with any level athletes and patients having problems with their foot or lack in their performance with the existing shoes. That was my Motivation 25 years ago to get in the world of sports shoes for any occasion. Now its time to show you my latest project of selecting the right sport shoes:
Even orthopedic surgeons need time to find good shoes for sports and normal life, besides, my need for comfortable shoes to wear in the clinic or at the hospital. Fit, comfort, colour and looks should be a personal selection according to appropriate needs.
However, in my current life phase I prefer the more colourful and special edition versions of sneaker and formal shoes, others seem boring to me, life is just too short….No offence to lovers of mono- or less coloured shoes, it’s just my personal opinion.
For my own outfit I prefer sometimes yellow, red or blue shoes, else I am all in for “bold and special”. The best choice of colors in shoes, you can find in the sneaker world, formal shoes or leisure shoes are nice to wear and sometimes comfortable, but come rarely in a specific color one want. Designers like Jean Paul Gaultier or Others frequently present wearable, cool shoes. But the price tag……..!

Also note, that athletic Sneakers/ Trainers usually come out (“drop down”)in Phases of Seasons, Events or Special Accomplishments of players or teams, more so and recently more in Cooperation with other Brands.
Some Series do not come out as MEN shoes, but only as WOMEN shoes. Sizes for Women are usually smaller than for men. A woman’s US 9.5 shoe size for example is a man’s size US 8. Just subtract 1.5 from your women’s size.
For Nike eg. GS, or Y Sizes mean Youth or Children shoes. IF you are an European 34/35 or 36 you mostly find your Nike Shoes in the youth department.
The Size makes the price!
A signature shoe that goes for $230 in Size 10,5 may cost you $800 in Size 13 or up. Smaller Size is normally less costly. In standard retail, sometimes all sizes have the same price.
If you are looking for a Sport Shoe or Sneaker selection, you should always think about this short questions to ask yourself:
- For which sport I will need the shoes? Or are they only for walking and showing off ?
- How long will I wear this shoes non-stop? During game time only or also in normal life?
- Do I need the right size fit for tight fit and good support, or half size bigger for looser fit and relaxed toes?
- Do I need long term stability and shape quality? Or is it for fashion and blinky show to an event or special time?
- How much support do I need in the Ankle, Midfoot and toes? Or is my foot alone stable enough to make the day?
- Do I want to use insoles to compensate for something my feet need? Or do I get a shoe providing this for me?
In case your are a real Sneakerhead, you might override this questions for business or fun. If you however really wear your shoes, the answers are paramount to be clear to yourself. (or for the sales persons)
I am happy to give you my advice from an orthopedic sport surgeons perspective:
Basketball Shoes come with a low, mid or high ankle support, they are made to stabilise the players abilities in the game. Every Sport requiring the same, might be suitable with this shoe type. The soles are usually with grip to stick to the floor, no gliding possible and also not wanted. Older or used shoes might loose that grip. Outside basketball shoes are for tougher support and often marking (which in In-door is not wanted!) they will catch dirt and stones easily requiring a higher maintenance as indoor shoes.
The NBA or other national players cooperating with a certain Shoe development usually lead to stable shoe version, that helps in all INDOOR sport regards.
Keep in mind, that theses Players with a height of 6′.5″, to 7′.2″ have in average shoe size of US13 to size US16. All other shoes sizes are equivalent, but sometimes do not come out identical to that.
Michal Jordan for example received each game a new pair of the seasons shoes from Nike. Shoes that have been worn by a player or celebrity and seen on TV or during a game, became usually more expensive and sought after, than the ones that came out as colorway and were never seen on TV on a player. NBA regulations apply in design.
Football (Soccer) Shoes are made for the grass/soft floor or harder turf or artificial gras. The soccer cleats and the American Football and Gulf Shoe cleats are purposely very different. Cross sport use may lead to injuries of yourself or your opponents.
The Football Shoes are from leather, plastic or fabric and are always empty on retail sale. The Pro Players however, have a personal contract with a shoe provider of choice ,independent from their Team sponsors and they are provide also with custom insoles made out of carbo material to have a comfortable shoe during the 90 minutes of game time. You will never be informed, which player has this in his shoe and who does not.
In my time as active team physician for pro teams, i met a lot of players with crooked feet. Most of them suffer from Achilles Tendon issues on harder floors or pronation tendency on longer playtime.
FiFa and UEFA rules apply for the shoes.
Lacrosse or Rugby sports fall for me in that same segment. However, the non stop playtime differs.
Tennis Shoes are for ashes, grass or turf and allow a glide and more elastic use of the sole, while giving stability and support without getting lost. On Tennis courts made from concrete or hard materials like non rubber, that glide might not work at all and cause more foot and leg issues if the player do not adapt to it.

In this blog you see my current selection experience while trying to find my personal “right” Shoes for Balling, Indoor and Outdoor, for walking every day and even for some runs if needed.
When it comes to my statue and foot conditions: I am a big (6’,05’’ 183cm) and heavy (yet >110kg) male with pronation feet walking (that’s a flattening feet, NOT flat feet) with exhausted metatarsal front feet stability. Also I have, due to my early frequent sports activity (College US Football, Pro Ice Hockey, Amateur Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton and Tennis) quite worn ankle joints while now undergoing aging.
In addition to this I have, like 30% of all people in this world, my personal issues with uneven legs, or better uneven weight distribution and power delivery between my right and left leg.
That is one reason, why I adapted my physical activity to scuba diving and mountain bike downhill trails (with only occasional ball play or tennis). In these activities uneven legs won’t bother you at all.
My ankles require a good cushioning in all terrains, without leaving the performance and stability out. I like my forefoot space (Toe box) wide with no toe tightening and the hind foot stable and supported. My medial arch I like to be supported, or give way for custom insoles doing this job.
For experienced salespersons I go as pronation runner with metatarsal flattening. For example, I must not wear pronating or hyper-pronating shoes for longer distances, they must be rather “neutral”.

I experianced that it might become hard to find a good shoe that one likes, that fits, only to learn that it is out of stock in my size or not even available in this part of the world in my size (Middle East or Asia or Europe or Nordamerika).
The following list and my try to give you an orthopedic doctor based review shall neither to be taken as a sophisticated market research nor as a scientific test setup (although there might be a wider brand selection spread in my blog than what you find in the usual magazines, sneaker blogs or on dedicated web pages).

I sincerely hope this list might help you to get an idea between all the other reviews out there to find your right shoe or at least give you an idea, what is all out there and to go and test it yourself.
On some shoes you can compensate the size by thightening the laces more or loosening them more.
On other shoes you need to size up or down for a perfect and comfortable fit.

KickStart of my shoe “blog project” was at the end of 2022 begin of 2023, when I found out that my old sport shoes have broken apart. To find out more about this, you can check my broken story in my other “Time for a change” – Blog on this Homepage.
In short: I needed some sport shoes from the basketball series, outdoor series or runner series and was on the lookout for daily use sneakers. As mentioned above, they should be special, available in my size and payable too.
The order of this shoes in this List is how I found them, not any priority of recommendation.
Hoka Arahi 6 Series
Because most US Orthopedics recommend and wear them, I started this List with the Ex-French, now American Brand HOKA One One: Hoka Arahi 6 , a Running shoe, that retails originally for 140 USD, but here are they around 700 AED in the UAE. I was lucky to find an option at a discount shop in Wahda Mall, Abu Dhabi that offered 70%! discount for this Arahi. However, the color selection in my size 11 was limited for that price.
My Verdict: Surprisingly light for a stable shoe, the Hoka Arahi returns, grounded in the same stabilizing J-FrameTM as its predecessor. I feel cushioned walking at all times. Boasting a seemingly contradictory combination of maximal cushioning and minimal weight. I could check the pull tab and mesh upper with zones of breathability (a must for UAE). Remarkably light and exceptionally comfortable, the Arahi 6 promises for me a lively support shoe for a wide range of runners and daily walking that prefer good cushioning with good support in a light shoe. Only the Bondi 8 has more cushioning for outdoor running on a higher price.
In short: Plusher tongue, lighter upper, new midsole color blockings.
Why I love it: Delivers the perfect balance of plushiness and support!!
Comes also in crazy colors, but they are not available here in Middle East or in my size.
Further on in my search for shoes, specially the ones that allow flat feet or pronation feet to stabilize and run without pain, I stepped on the shoes that were co-developed with active players of the NBA at Nike, Adidas, Puma and Under Armor, to respect design or foot support where the player deemed necessary.
After trying some, I must say, that this is a good idea, when you know the crooked feet of today’s athletes.
Here are my recommendations and my experience:
The Basketball shoes of today can be used for not only Basketball but also Padel Tennis on Hard Courts or other Hard Surface game.
I felt the best options for me for stability and support were:
Adidas Harden 7
Lager Sizes than 9US are mostly sold out or go way up in price!
Very good optic and great Stabilization for Running and Basketball on the street.
Don’t forget, this Shoes come for tight fit with a build-in sock system… beware, if you need insoles or special devices.
The new Harden 8 seems to top this with more breathability, in the addendum to this Blog, you find the other shoes I tested. like the yeezy shoes with K west.
The HARDEN VOLUME 7 003 SHOE, ENERGY-RETURNING BASKETBALL SHOE.
These adidas basketball shoes make the most of your activity, much like they claim to do for James Harden. An adidas JET BOOST midsole combines with Lightstrike cushioning for a responsive, energy-returning feel with every step. The circular and herringbone patterns on the outsole provide traction to keep you sure-footed with every spin and step-back move.
DETAILS: Regular fit; Lace closure; Textile upper; Optimized energy return; Lightstrike cushioning; JET BOOST midsole; Herringbone-traction rubber outsole.
My Verdict: After trying and slipping in that integrated Sock, I must say they were mighty comfortable, and I almost never wanted to pull them off anymore. VERY COMFY. On the other hand, as comfy and stabilizing it feels, it takes quite some time to get them on and also to get them off. These are no shoes for quick-on for ballin’ or going to town.
For Ball games, I CAN VERY RECOMMEND THEM.
Adidas Harden 6
This was currently wider available, as older Version, known as the Adidas Harden Vol. 6, between under 300 and 400 AED.
My Verdict: This one has no inner Sleeve and can therefore be used with medical Insoles. The stability and trust in jumps and landings as a low cut shoe is less good, if you are taller than 6’ and over 100kg.
I found four big and two upcoming lines of interest for me, driven by cooperations with Nike, these NBA Players, for example (there is others!):
1. The Air Jordans (Chicago Bulls), retired
2. The Kobe Bryant (LA Lakers), deceased
3. The Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns)
4. The LeBron James (LA Lakers) soon retired?
5. The Kyrie Irwin (Dallas Mavericks) lost contract!
6. The Dwayne Wade (Miami Heat) non with Nike!
The 5th line of the Aussie Kyrie Andrew Irwin was interrupted due to him loosing the contract with Nike over a media dispute. Leading to no more Kyries to be produced, means price goes up!
No 2, Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash in 2020 with age 41. His Widow Vanessa with Nike publishes ongoing shoes, like the 45 birthday edition the Kobe 8 Protro, next to annual birthday models. The Protro Series introduced the iconic Snake Skin feature. Currently the prices of these shoes are sky rocketing.
The time of Big Magic Johnson (LA Lakers) was during the Nike vs. Converse fight with Converse, where Nike started the Air Jordan Label with Michael Jordan and helped them bypassing converse to in the end buy them out. (Converse is now an independent brand within Nike, which has its operations, while it is integrated into Nike’s wholesale distribution strategy. Nike acquired Converse in 2003.

No 6 in this List Dwayne Wade produces his shoes NOT with Nike, but with chinese Player company Li-Ning, distributing over Internet.
Another great Athlete in Basketball is the mighty Shaquille O’Neal who was in is career with Rebook producing the Shaq Attack series with Shaqnosis as an really iconic shoe.
So as interesting as this History of NIKE and others is, it is still hard to get the hold on some of their signature shoes, every time when updates or spin off’s come out. Usually these come out on annual birthdays, on special wins (like MVP, Best offence, Best pointguard etc) or special – other events. After at least another 18 more months, various colorways usually come out, that go off the shelves quickly or not at all.
During Corona Pandemic Times, the secondary and tertiary Market boomed, with rising prices of popular models like crazy. Now slowy the market relaxes. But still: One may find any given special sneakers only on Bidding platforms, like GOAT, Kickscrew or Stoxx, or even Ebay!
New Nike Sneakers Rollouts you can find for sure with dates and Retails price on SNKRS. Usually that means they are not immediately available outside USA.

Nike KD 15 Series
Her you see here the Kevin Duran Shoes: The Nike KD 15 Series (128US original, 448AED), known to be good in outdoor basketball for sure. Shows soft translucent fabric, less leather for hot games.
The depicted is the very cool looking Nike KD15 „Timothy Goodman“ x EP ‘Brooklyn Courts’ DM1054-005 Version to find for 545 AED on Street baller Shoe, which I found on ebay.com for better price. This Shoe looks like a peace of art and reads, Dedicated, Easy, Brooklyn, Hustle, Work, what else can you read of it? Comes with perfect fit, great stability and wild colors.
Also as second great shoe, I found this cool looking and super fitting version I liked by color, the Nike KD 15 “Bred” No DC1975-003.
A black and red masterpiece with hot optics! The KD Shoes 15 are very good fitting for size, stabilizes the foot medial and on the heel. They come with Zoom Cushioning.
These two shoes have proven to be experts in Basketball indoor and outdoor on my pronation foot.
The Nike KD 15 also comes in more conservative optics. This “normal” one I saw for 839 AED: However, the more rare models are more costly or tough to find in the average male sizes. US 10-12
Nike LeBron Series
A further Shoe of interest ist a superb shoe for all indoor ball games and outdoor too, it is from the begin of LeBron V1 the now Nike Le Bron 20 which was originally 154US when it came out.
Here as cool looking, now rare, Liverpool Red all Suede version for 848 AED in stadium goods. I grabbed it for much less from Ebay USA from a sneakerhead resolving his collection.
This Nike LeBron 20 “Liverpool” is a colorway of LeBron James’s twentieth signature shoe with Nike Basketball that is inspired by the English Premier League soccer team. The shoe features a head-turning, all-red suede upper. Overlapping red and black Swooshes with a faux reptilian-inspired finish appear on the sides, giving the shoe a decidedly luxurious look. Gold hardware is found on the top eyelet hole and on the lace overlay. The shoe rides on a red foam midsole that is paired with a black rubber outsole.
Sold out worldwide, only now to find in auctions like eBay or stoxx.
VERDICT: I like that this version of LeBron 20 shoes come with sturdy suede leather, instead of too much plastic in the others sneakers. Here in UAE, more air ventilation may be required however. The fit is great, the looks is even better. A great value add for any sneaker user that likes the color, Liverpool or to have a firm support in sports. As real suede leather you need to take care of them like all suede shoes: Impregnating, Protecting from water, Foam cleaning and always, always keep them dry!
As a best and widely available option for the purpose of stabilising the Ankle and Mid-Foot for safe ballgames however. is the
NIKE Air Jordan XXXVI 36 LUKA was 185US Retail, 764AED at publishing times.
I personally like this „Luka“ Versions due to better fabric, for stabilising my gait with high leather parts. Luka Dončić is a Dallas Mavericks player and creates the LUKA series under Air Jordan Brand.
Nike Air Jordan Series
This Air Jordan 36 is together with 35 and 37 one of the BEST basketball shoes for flat feet people and pronation walkers hence it gives support in exact these directions.
All 36 and 37 have a carbo system for the medial Arch support keeping the foot tight. Rare Models are are hard to find however, fakes are frequent in the web.
All Air Jordan Special Editions (not being produced endlessly) tend to get out of the primary market into auctions very quickly and are worldwide for collector’s speculation depending on size.
Be aware (!): These are playing shoes for competitive sports! Not good for long walks or showing off. IF you buy your size for perfect fit, they get easily to tight on the toebox and midfoot. One half or full size larger make it for the walking, but cost you stability in the game. The earlier AJs under No. 12 with their higher leather parts are better for off sports activities.
Nike Air Jordan XXXVI (36) Series
As of today you need a spend a minimum of 199USD; but also 1000USD are not rarely asked for a rather rare version of the „Air Jordan 36“.
Here is one of my favorite Models, that I really would like to have. The Air Jordan 36 (XXXVI) Version: LUKA DONCIC X AIR JORDAN 36 ‘EL MATADOR’
Currently for me hard to reach…
Eventually I got my hands on a more available version of the Air Jordan 36, of the same Family, the AIR JORDAN 36, Year of the Tiger Model,
1286AED at Farfetch, 622AED at Kicks Crew.
This is a lighter version of the flat foot stabilizer line.
The Air Jordan 36 “Year of The Tiger” sneakers are inspired by the annual Chinese New Year collection. This high-top pair is crafted from a mix of faux leather and mesh panels – in black, light orange and purple – and sits atop a rubber outsole.
It comes in two color versions, here the more colorful one I could find and was able to try:
My Verdict: Their fit on the foot is great, the circulation and feeling in the heat is wonderful. Were other shoes are being too sweaty, this AJ 36 YotT are very snuggly and still stabilizing the walk and jumps.
The medial arch support from the carbo sheat helps sabilizing. Others might feel that nagging.
I like the cool look on black pants or my back gown uniform, also for going out they have enough flash factor to turn heads. Cant do long walks in them though!
Order your size for a string fit, but 0.5 or one size larger for any looser fit or insole support, that is valid for most NIKE Shoes.
In Short: Not only a great Basketball shoe for stabilizing and flat foot people, giving support and buffering with great circulation. One of my Favourites for Game time.
I was further checking other brands and options as alternatives with the same intention.
Puma MB.02 “Be You” Series
Surprisingly Puma, like so often, has done it again: Creating a shiny Top version of shoes for the Basketball court. The Ball brothers seem for this really to have a hand for arts since the MB.01 Series!
With the Puma MB.02 “Be You” La Melo they combine elements from every past released MB.01+2.
A very colorful and stable shoe, meant for basketball (La Melo Ball, Charlotte Hornets) but also for making a bold statement in walking out and in on events, especially if you have instable ankles / feet and want to look stunning too. It’s a tight fit for the size and gives very good stabilization.
The Air flow seems not suited for hot environments!
They ask more than >899 AED here in UAE. They are 175USD at Puma USA, 199EUR in Europe (status July 2023) In white or other normal colours in footlockers USA they go down to USD 99,99…
I like how Puma always half’s the price of their own high quality good fit shoes against the same of equal or lesser value of the bigger brands.
My Verdict: Like the Adidas Harden this shoes feel great in the right size for fit and stabilization to be used all day. I love them for the excellent fit and fabulous support, The great looks, turns heads all time. The materials are sturdy and give a hold.
The right and left shoe come in different colors including laces.
An eyecatcher for sure, these colors might not be everybody’s taste.
Puma SF Cell Epsilon
Also from Puma for everyday walking i found the Puma SF Cell Epsilon – Men’s Shoe original 699AED , down to 180AED on offer ;-).
As low cut Basketball or everyday walking shoe, Puma is underestimated but with a very good Price-Performance Relation. Your ankle sprains might reduce significantly in these shoes!
PUMA German Company is in Bavaria (Brother of Adidas owner), made arrangements now with players, in the past they cooperated with car companies Porsche, BMW, AMG Petronas, and here with Ferrari, hence the short SF which stands here for „Scuderia Ferrari“. Even you find Rihana sneakers nowadays from PUMA.
My Verdict: The SF Cell shoe became my everyday work shoe, clima control, colors, heel lift and stabilization are good and I don’t get a flash if I touch medical devices from electrostatics discharges either. For any Ball game on the court, would switch to my more ankle protecting shoes.
Puma Viz Runner Wide
Sometimes with a lucky hand, another shoe often comes by: On the search for an all white shoe with a good price under $100 ($32!) I got my hands on these Puma Viz Runner Wide a wide running and street shoe that goes with white or black pants or jeans.
My Verdict: Price power and good with hospital floors. I like it for medial support and the good material. They are a bit heavy for long running’s. For works I selected the black sole, they also come in all white, but who knows how long that white stays withe in the UAE dusty environment.
Adidas TERREX Voyager 21 Ripstop Travel Series
A great shoe as a value solution for walking, running, and just hiking outdoor, may it rain or sunshine, or comfort and stability ore needed. I liked this one for price and fit.
The Adidas TERREX VOYAGER 21 RIPSTOP TRAVEL ticketed for 225AED Magic Grey / Blue Rush / Turbo.
These are wide fit sport shoes specialized for travel and can be folded small.
„Terrex“ is the Outdoor safe version of adidas soles. It not only looks like comfort and style, with these adidas travel shoes you can walk for miles. A ripstop upper promises breathability as you walk the city streets and a Traxion rubber outsole provides the grip you need for navigating must-see attractions. The packable design allows them easy to stow, and the lightweight, cushioned midsole means you’ll stay comfortable all day long. Made with recycled materials, this features at least 50% recycled content.
They are a wide fit, Elastic lace closure, Ripstop upper, Snug feel, EVA midsole, Textile lining, Traxion outsole, Upper contains a minimum of 50% recycled.
My Verdict: Walking in these is easy and comfortably, good for long travels, and city walks, also they can be good in rougher terrain.Toe-Box is nice and comfortable.
Adidas NDM R1 V3 Series
Ideal for Air travel, or also for Luggage weight reduction aonce can consider the Adidas NMD R1 V3 – Men’s Shoes as outdoor Running and day to day walking Shoe, made from recycling with good stability. Good for hot weather.
Ideal for travel to find for 400 AED in UAE I personally find these medial wiggly, but they are VERY light and give firm grip.
I needed to re-sell them as they have a funny size grid (they are EU44 which shows US 10 (to tight!!) , but I am a 11 so 44 2/3 or 45 1/3 in EUR) tricky size fit.
they went to Florida to make somebody else happy……
Adidas Hyperturf Adventure Series
A super colour, great fit and very light, air transparent running and walking shoe is this Adidas Hyperturf Adventure Shoe. A fine outdoor walking and hiking shoe with a great color and a high leather (Nubuk) part used.
My Verdict: Stable and light with wide space for the mid and forefoot.
Buy better half or full size larger, if you need an insole!
This shoe is very underrated, stable sole, strong fit.
Normally valued 500 I got a pair under 200 in a special offer.
Here also color makes the price for this shoe! I liked the flashy apricot tone.
New Balance 850
Claims to be a classical walking shoe and everyday Sneaker. A new-school cool to a beloved classic with the 850 Retro Bring Back, a minimalist silhouette that was ahead of its time when it was originally introduced in 1996.
Featuring a mix of suede, synthetics and breathable mesh, the progressive upper features reflective details on the heel and forefoot and a speed lace design that locks for fast and secure gearing up.
Meanwhile, the midsole features signature ABZORB technology in the rearfoot and forefoot and ROLLBAR TPU medial support on the medial side to provide the ultimate in stability. The progressive upper of the 850 features a molded tongue label for bold heritage style. A roll bar medial post in the midsole offers added stability.
Opinion and My Verdict: I decided for this shoe because ot the German national colors and being black sole against easy dirt catching. They have a great share of air and humidity permeability. This is just right here in the middle east:
They are very sturdy and stable, I bought here size 10 US /44 EUR and this was just right for this shoe. Maybe 10,5/ 44,5 would have been a better option. Still, they are comfy. Currently they are fabulously low priced at Footlockers for 220 AED at , which is just 60 USD! All other colorways are still much more costly.
Are New Balance shoes good for sport?
New Balance is not only an athletic shoe company, they are a go-to shoe for many people with foot problems. They produce many of the recommended shoes for conditions such as plantar faciitis, PTTD (fallen arches), diabetes, arthritis, heel spurs, metatarsalgia, and Morton’s Neuroma.
Is the New Balance 850 comfortable?
This shoe is among the most stable (aiding controlling pronation) shoes on the market but still feels soft and flexible, especially in the forefoot. The amount of cushioning is decent but might be insufficient for heavier runners.

New Balance 990 V5

For enthusiastic runners and trendsetters at the time, the NB 990 was a status symbol. Since then, its design has been updated through countless versions and collaborations, but its legacy of performance and style remains intact.
Opinion and My Verdict: I like it for Fit, Comfort and Breathability. Good for longer walks and shot track running.
General Points of Consideration:
- Instant step-in comfort, as expected, but not so much as to be unstable
- Stability, both from a cushion standpoint, as well as the rubber compound and traction on the outsole
- Holy cow, there is actual suede on these dad boys…
- Attainability, I was able to actually walk into a New Balance store (Abu Dhabi Mall) and purchase the product (it’s insane this is a real pro in today’s sneaker industry)
- Made in the U.S.A.
- There is a giant “N” on both the lateral and medial sides of the shoe, an instant turn off
- In an office environment, the wearer faces the constant fear of ridicule at any given moment
- The toe box is quite roomy, maybe a “pro” for some people, but some should have gone down a half-size…
- Nike has trained me to enjoy poor QC, and I don’t know how to handle these beauties (this does not qualify as a “con”)
Price, why pay $180+ for excellently built shoes when you can spend $225 on a poorly constructed Jordan retro?
A good shoe for every day and walking all distances. Running would be tolerated, but you do quick steps like in basketball or Volleyball, this is not the right shoe for you.
Asics Noosra TRI 15 Series
Meanwhile, you know I like the colours. In my search for cool colours, stable walking and running shoe, I found this ASICS Noosra TRI 15 Runners for AED 552. Wonderful looks, great reputation for all distance runners from an established runner support company.
My Verdict:
Promise fulfilled! Great cushioning, great looks. I like them for fit, low weight and great color. Wonderful feeling on the foot, good and stable walking for 100kg+ people.
Further, I like the great sole stability in our heat environment, which allows outside walking in all areas.
Asics and New Balance are capturing up with color-full version of their running shoes in the next seasons. Check them out for running, walking… To get them here in the Middle East seems rather be a problem. (i got mine from Spain per mail order)
Nike Alphafly 2 Series
In my search I tried a lot of mall shops, went through all the big malls, the outlet stores, the runners special points in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Berlin. In Duesseldorf Germany, I found this new solution on the market for running.
The Nike Alphafly 2 Famous Air Zoom Shoe.
They really have a good and cool look, with VERY GOOD CUSHIONING! For the ambitioned speed runner and professional marathon runners, talking all distances here!
This Ladies & Men’s Road Racing Shoes are in the Nike shop at 1600 AED, Size 38,5 to 47! Contain the best Air and best Zoom effect-line in one shoe.
Not many shoes of Nike are equipped with this combination, where the ZOOM X sole is promising to giving you the minutes you need in marathons!
Nike Zoom Fly Series
A less costly and available version with only the ZoomX Sole in the front and back is the Nike Zoom Fly 5 Men Running shoe, goes for 599AED to 875AED in Nike Webshop.
Update for the Nike Signature shopts fro abu Dhabi: biggest store in YAS Mall, Outlet Store now in Al Wahda Mall. Better offers you might find at the Reem Mall Nike shop if you are there, try to ask for Kuja Mr. Gideon, and he will sort you out.
Nike Air Max Scorpion Flynit Series
Down here another concept of Nike’s all air cushioning in unning is the Nike Air Max Scorpion Flyknit Women’s Shoes, comes at 1200 AED from 37-42 Size EUR
also in White and Gold as well as ALL WHITE as Nike Air Max Plus PRM für 1000 AED 35,5-44 EUR Sizes.
All this Air Max or FLYKNIT shoes have Knit fabric as stabilizers, That is a synthetic woven into a fabric that looks like knit-ware. From the concept they might sweat less, for the stabilization I did not ask for a male version to try. Price and use is not in my category!

Now to the less standard sport shoe companies, if one does online research on sport shoes, earlier or later you will also hit the following chapter of fashion impulsed sport shoes.
Balmain Unicorn Series
They are hard to find in a sport shop, even the signature shop of them in Dubai Mall don’t carry all the sneaker versions and colors.
Be warned for fakes and copies on the market asking high price.
Valued through my eyes for the looks and stable walking, with these shoes you will experience VERY SAFE stand and NO MORE ANKLE SPRAIN.
I came into the oversized shoes fashion chapter like the BALMAIN Unicorn Sneakers
They are low-top paneled buffed calfskin and neoprene sneakers in black and red. Different colors available. Sculptural rubber trim throughout. sculptural rubber midsole, Treaded rubber outsole.
Color here: Black/Red Upper: textile, calfskin. Sole: rubber.
My Verdict: Running in those feels funny and gives little knee stress (like a MBT Shoes do), but they are comfortable and good for everything in walking.
They are quite bulky and may block (!) the pedals of cars of one is not taking care.
Price is rather expensive, however good offers are available and they deliver a bold fashion statement.
Balmain B-Bold Series
For the completion of this brand there is another Oversized shoe from BALMAIN series as another version of a well cushioned Shoe, they are called the BALMAIN B-Bold series. A simliar, more decent shoe of the same Brand and in oversized quality
Versace Odissea Series
As I had the Intention for completion of this short OVERZISED chapter research, I do not want to leave out showing you some other crazy or alternative shoes for support or help in walking, that may or may not help you.

Check out, and see this bold shoe, here is the Versace Odissea metallic-effect calf leather and rubber in nice shiny look. A sneaker made for walking… using them in any serious sport seems a felony, too.
Versace Trigreca Paneled Series
Another oversized Model that helps stabizing your gait and shows off, might be the Versace Trigreca Paneled cut-out Sneaker, coming also in more decent colors for the more distinct individuals!
Here a normal and conservative Version of this same Shoe.
Balenciaga 3XL chunky Series
Another oversizing version in Sneakers is this Balenciaga wide shoe for cushioned walking is the also nice looking Balenciaga 3XL chunky sneaker.
I like here the bright yellow color and the wide heel base. This cushioning is yet less than in the Balmain Unicorn Series.
Balenciaga X-Pander Series
These Balenciaga and other fashion brands might go often for 2000-4000 AED. But offers are available and out there.

See here the very adventurous and special looking BALENCIAGA X-Pander Sneakers that comes with a lifting system to buffer walking.
Stability for sport however seems very questionable. I can’t imagine these hinges survive a normal basketball or any other contact game. Any side steps and quick stops might crush the latches.

Balenciaga Track 2 Series
Obviously inspired by other high-performance footwear styles, Balenciaga’s Track 2 sneakers combine here a sporty silhouette with a chunky rubber sole. Made from mesh and leather material, this pair offers a cool edge with contrasting panels, caged detail, and their typical brand labels on the tongues. This shoe makes a great contribution towards sustainability and an even greater contribution towards your wardrobe.
My Verdict: I like the good stabilizing effect of the Balenciaga Track-2 Sneakers. One good shoe of the oversized, stable rubber shoe sneakers. Good for instable foot or wide foot people. I like that color, there are Uni color models looking better for fashion purpose.
I use them for daily work and walking in hospital and they cary my 100+kg like nothing without any bending.
Adiadas Crazy 1 Series
Again a more special or crazy looking sneakers in my search, that might ease your walking and makes heads turn are those in this chapter.
From Adidas, they created the Adidas Crazy 1, a low top sneaker, no leather as it seems though.
These shoes remind my on the Janet jackson’s Rhythm Nation look.
They come also in other colors, looking more reasonable.
Adidas Springblade Series
An interesting Adidas Shoe first as Project than as real available Sneakers is the Adidas Springblade (released August ’22, sold out already).
This Adidas Springblade was a novel idea which most had high expectations of, so lot of people were disappointed that the shoe failed to stand up to the marketing claims.
It does have its merits, but possessing a magical ‘explosive’ or ‘forward propelling’ power isn’t one of them.
The Springblade is a great looking shoe with unique and responsive cushioning, but that makes you wonder whether those attributes alone are worth buying the shoe for. At a wallet busting price tag of $180, it does make you re-think your choice of career.
I am eager to see what the future of Springblade is – trickling it down to other shoes is a challenge, looking at the past history of mechanical cushioning. Unless you’re selling to the Brazilians, in which case you can get away with selling something like the Springblade FF, a strange looking beast with a bladed forefoot and a foam rear-foot.
Running with these seemed like on clouds.
I would be very concerned to lose the parts and the rubber attachments in the hot climates of the UAE after a while.
Meanwhile however this shoes are hard to get and I could not find any try them on anymore…..
Rebook ATV 10 Series
Even Reebok, now in Boston USA, has its up and downs with owners and directions of shoe designs.
In the past, they shined with Shaquille O’Neal motivated shoe like the Shaqnosis.

One wild shoe they developed is the Reebok ATV 10 Running Shoe, a new concept of weight bearing in shoes, a little bit like the spring blade from Adidas.
When out and available, it is left to see how it performs in runners and in different surfaces.
It looks like a 4×4 all-wheel drive in sport shoe.
Adidas Response Super 3.0 Series
If you in need for all Black Sneakers/ Trainers, you have options in ON, Nike, Puma or in Adidas. Most of them have a blinky-blinky or reflective element somewhere as design. For more Information on Black Sport Shoes follow this link to my Black-is-Beautiful-Sneaker List.
For an all black comfortable Sneaker I fell for this Adidas Response Super 3.0 Running Shoe in all BLACK which comes as the price of ca 430AED and promises for good support in running.
My Verdict: This is a greatly cushioned shoes. Make me a feel good. These shoes were designed to perform in all areas. They combine Bounce at the heel with Bounce+ underfoot for a comfy, springy feel. A light and airy upper sit on a sturdy grippy rubber outsole. And while the molded heel fits snugly, the soft sock-liner cushions my foot stride after stride. Also, here they use recycled materials, which is not to feel. I like them of the air ventilation.
ON Cloud 5 Series
Furthermore to getting black shoes, the Swiss Company ON has nice all black shoes. Here the nice looking Swiss ON Cloud 5 Trainers for Women and Men. Featuring Zero-Gravity foam in CloudTec for soft, cushioned landings plus an improved, more inclusive upper fit. Signature speed-lacing system lets your foot slide in and embrace the comfort. Weight: 250g
ON Cloudwift OA Series
Another option in Black comes in Swiss ON Cloudswift OA Shoe for Outdoor Running, short-medium distances, impact protection.
That is one of the shoes that I see very often in the UAE with Emirati Ladies, probably due to the fit of color, available at ON in Switzerland CHF 210.00
The only softer ON Sports Shoe is the ON Cloudmonster that i will show in the Addendum-Blog in details. It is not available in all black, though.
Christian Louboutin Loubishark Series
Whenever I checked others Designers, like Jimmy Choo i find they have a rather reduced, or better conservative creativity on Sneakers and Runners, mostly in one color only, i could not afford to put them into this small research. No shop here where they are displayed either. They seem to pricy, too.
Another Black sneaker made out of real leather and suede is the Christian Louboutin Loubishark Sneaker, for the gentlemen going out and for ladies wanting more stability. I cannot see this shoe for any serious sport use as athlete, however. I guess that is also not wanted by the brand. The shoe looks almost too formal to play with it.
Dolce & Gabbana Airmaster Series
Away from the all black, now to the colorful shoes again. Here I introduce these Dolce & Gabbana Mixed-Material Airmaster Sneakers which are looking nice, but they show no advantage versus the classical sport shoe maker, also not really in oversized or special category. I felt I should show how they look.
Fendi Flow Series
Another Designer daring to create sneakers is Fendi with its Fendi Flow sneakers, a slightly oversized nicely color shoe.
When I read 100% Nylon, 100% Calf Leather, 100% Polyester, 100% Rubber, made in Italy I am a little confused what 400% Shoes look like. The zipper if working would be an extra for a quick slip in and out.
Gucci x Balenciaga, The Hacker Project Series
This next Shoe I want to show you is a Co-Operation between the spaniard Cristóbal Balenciaga in San Sebastian, Spain (or sometimes Paris) and the Italian Guccio Gucci in Florence.

I did not see any of them in the Galleria Store of Balenciaga on Maya Island, though.

What Makes the Triple S so great is that Balenciaga’s Triple S was the catalyst for a luxury sneaker market now worth hundreds of millions. The first of its kind, it was a premium house-designed shoe that had sneakerheads and high-end fashion aficionados alike clambering over one another to get their hands on a pair.

Givenchy Spectre Cage Series
This designer is rather cost conscious and make his GIVENCHY Spectre Cage Runner Sneakers available for a reasonable price, but with no Showroom to try them on. I have not heard from anyone in UAE carrying this brand.
PRADA Cloudbust Series
One of the last Designers on my search was the sneaker from PRADA, a more woman oriented version of sneaker, oversizing included: The Prada Cloudbust Thunder low-top sneakers coming on different looks including all black.
Ladies often like or more do not like the oversized version of a sneaker for sport, for leisure or walking maybe. This one show a high sole insulation from the ground.
Let us go back to the Nike working shoes for my hospital use.
Here i found 2 special editions of great shoes, that come also as “normal” editions in the shops:
Nike Air Max 97 x MSCHF x INRI “Jesus Shoes”
For you here as fist choice is the Air Max 97 x MSCHF x INRI “Jesus Shoes”
This shoe was released in 2019, the Air Max 97 x MSCHF x INRI “Jesus Shoes” is a custom design and was engineered by Brooklyn marketing agency MSCHF.
With 60cc of holy water injected into the Max Air unit, the pair allows you to walk on holy water. The upper is built with mesh and leather, in a pristine white and light blue, and features a contrasting gold crucifix lace jewel. MSCHF branding can be found on the left heel tab and “INRI” — which stands for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, and was inscribed on the cross — is on the right heel tab. The lateral forefoot notes to Matthew 14:25, the biblical chapter that references Jesus’ ability to walk on water.

At Nike they realized the origin of the Air Max 97 has become something of an urban myth. (It was a water droplet that inspired the ripple design—not high-speed bullet trains.)
My verdict: NICE! AVAILABLE! Still, the influence of the 97 remains undeniable.
It was, in essence, a vision of the future then. An icon that made other icons possible.
Unlike anything that had come before, it revolutionized the sneaker world with full-length Air cushioning and an innovative hidden lacing system.
Not much medial support, and they rely completely on their air polster.
Originally made for performance running, these shoes were quickly adopted as streetwear by high-fashion destinations like Milan and beloved by creatives and artists alike to cement their place in sneaker history.
For my personal part, they feel comfortable in all aspects, but running’s I would not really do in them. I prefer more medial support of the other or basketball shoes. I like the white as it fits in healthcare.
Nike Air Jordan XXXVI (36) Series
Another great version of the Air Jordan 36 Series special editions is the Air Jordan Jordan XXXIV 36 SE Rui Hachimura Black Samurai, a great Basketball play only shoe.
Designed in collaboration with Rui Hachimura, of the Washington Wizards, the Air Jordan 36 features a bold design in a similar tone as his Jordan 8. This pair is constructed in a mix of materials with cracked detailing at the collar, vamp, and midsole. Rui’s personal logo appears throughout with Japanese characters behind the tongues atop a graphic translucent outsole.
My Verdict: Very comfy shoe with very good ventilation and a typical AJ 36 medial support by the carbo insert that holds your medial arch.
These Special edition is the same quality as the Air Jordan XXXVI 36 Low Light Orewood Brown Sneaker, BNIB DH0833-160
A very breathing and airy spaced sport shoe, that makes any 9 hr day in the hospital an easy walk for the feet. As I mentioned above the Air Jordan 36 is friendly to flat feet and pronation feet.. Nicely priced, if one can find them in Size 11.
Larger to find is even worse.
Additional Shoes for Basketball or similar to recommend for use in Indoor or outdoor Outdoor Team Sport in UAE.
Adidas Trae Young 20 Series
Good reviews from US and tend me to check the Adidas Trae Young 20 for 112US / 650AED currently for 300 AED in this great red color!
Trae Young another NBA Player (Atlanta Hawks).
I like colors and wanted to get an all blue, all red and all yellow. But again, not available in Size 11+!
The TRAE YOUNG 20 is part of the SP2023 collection, They come in nice bright colours. The yellow look also cool, for an easier design you can get your pair under 100 USD!
My Verdict: I like the massive breathable Fabric with low plastic around the foot layout, so that the air ventilation is really great. The Sole gives good support in lateral moves.
Nike Kyrie 7/8 Series
Another great NIKE Basketball Shoe.
Long awaited is the Nike Kyrie Infinity 8 120USD
But Nike suspended its relationship with Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving and canceled its next Irving-branded shoe release (No 8) in the aftermath of his promotion of an anti-Semitic documentary! The Kyrie 7 stays therefore the latest and will get the prices high quickly! For my size 11 it is already on 260 USD!
The Difference between the Kyrie 8 and the Kyrie Infinity is in the cushioning:
The shoe’s cushion set up combines a Phylon midsole with a standard heel Zoom Air unit and a forefoot Zoom strobel unit, similar to the Nike Zoom GT Run. The Kyrie 8 has a textile forefoot section as well as a rear section that features some premium materials. The shoe will retail for $110 if you can get the hands on that discontinued line.
The Nike Kyrie Infinity is one of the most well-cushioned Kyrie shoes to this point. Some good elements from previous models return as well.
VERDICT: The fit same as all newer NIKE shoes, but show no advantages to them.
For me as user and only lover of good shoes, all this name hype is rally too much, its too easy to lose track and get good prices. Later I explain why UAE is not good place to find interesting basketball shoes anyway.
The Nike Kyrie 7 high-top sneakers for 598AED at SSS, but in some looks they are easy 900AED and in future more.
Told to be the shoe that’s fast enough to keep up with Kyrie Irving’s – American NBA player – mind and his moves. These Kyrie 7 high-top sneakers feature a mesh upper designed to contain the foot delivering a close, comfortable, speed-boosting fit that helps anyone blow by defenders.

Nike Cosmic Unity 2 Series
Currently available is another NIKE Basketball or Turf Shoe . That is the Nike Cosmic Unity 2 , in shops for 85-109US, 500-900AED if you can find your size!
They where made to celebrate the love and joy of the game.
Made from at least 20% recycled content by weight, it provides enhanced responsiveness and support. This shoe will help keep you fresh and secure without overloading it with extra grams, so that you can focus on locking down the perimeter defensively or starting the fast break after a rebound.
The white sole versions are under 100US, the colorful soles for some reasons are over 10o USD still….
Currently (August 2023) on offer in Nike AE. for under 500AED!
My Verdict: Did only try in shop, care for size. They come in nice colours too.
However, I see no real advantage over the Air Jordans series of the Edition 36!
Nike Air Jordan Zion Wlliamson, Naruto Series
If you follow my blog, you know that for good reasons I favour the Nice Air Jordan 36 and Le Bron’s, however my size and my colour seem often not to be available in the UAE: A real alternative for the not available Nike Le Bron’s came up in my case with a Men’s Air Jordan Zion Williamson 2 Shoe NARUTO which looks nice and fits for stabilization of the Heel very nicely.

Zion Williamson is collaborating with hit anime series Naruto on a new Air Jordan 37 colorway that’s dropping in February 2023!

Under Armour Curry 10 Series
I was searching everywhere to try the New Line of stabilizing Basketball Shoes the Under Armour Curry 10 an online 796AED priced and on offer around 540 shoe, but I found smaller sizes only! Another shoe that I could not find in Size US11.
Steph Curry has dropped his latest Sneaker with Under Armour. The sneaker is the 10th iteration of the player’s signature basketball shoe. They come in different colors and outfits and are often sold out!
One great Shoe i really wanted to try is the Stephen Curry 4 Chinese Heritage Shoe. Great colors promise dope quality. Hart to find and try.
Adidas Adizero Rose 1.5 Restomod
With an idea for a decent fashion statement, I like having a strong yellow shoe with the Adidas Harden 7, a possible red with the Adidas Tre Young or another option. This wonderful blue shoe for under 500 AED is the Adidas Adizero Rose 1.5 Restomod in royal blue. For $80 US only, but like so often my size is not available anymore.
Other colors, designs are on adidas.ae for 700 AED available.
These Adizero Rose 1.5 Restomod Basketball shoes are an ode to Derrick’s early career. Another cooperation with a player, Classic D-Rose details are enhanced with Restomod upgrades like a Light strike midsole for ultra-lightweight cushioning and a Pure motion outsole for superior grip. The shoes built for one of the fastest, most explosive players ever are now lighter and faster.
I can only say, that they seem to have sufficient ventilation for the hot climate here or in Asia. A tight grip and the reviews say it all.

I met a lot of engaged salespersons and some clueless sales persons also some sneakerheads in the sport shoe industry. I learned that like in real life, if you want something and you like it, then take it now, or else it will be gone or cost you more in the future!
